Scitech Grand Final

On Friday 2nd May, KS1, LKS2 and UKS2 winners from the EQT schools for the Scitech competition took part in the Grand Final at Heymann Primary & Nursery School. The event was hosted by Miss Bussey (EQT Science Lead) and it was wonderful to see so many schools participating, and enthused about science. The challenge this year was to create a flying machine: for KS1, a paper plane; for LKS2, a card glider; for UKS2, a straw-based flying device. The focus was on measuring the straight-line distance that the flying machine was in the air for.

After a spectacular event, supported by Heymann and Crossdale science ambassadors and our panel of judges (Hazel Ebling, Jeanette Hull, Martin Benscik and Daniel Murphy), the winners were revealed as follows:

KS1 overall distance winners: Beau and Elijah (Burton Joyce), whose plane flew 7.45m

KS1 most ingenious winner: Layland (Flintham)

KS1 most aesthetic winners: Jacob, Ivan, Seb, Lucas and Gabriel (Roundhill)

LKS2 overall distance winners: Elliott, Danny and Aryuv (Brookside), whose glider flew 10.00m

LKS2 most ingenious winners: Arlo, Zak and Venice (Flintham)

LKS2 most aesthetic winners: Thomas and Ellie (Sutton Bonington)

UKS2 overall distance winners: Seth and Teddy (Willow Farm), whose straw-based device flew 12.57m

UKS2 most ingenious winner: Edward (Kinoulton)

UKS2 most aesthetic winners: Isla and Daisy (Robert Miles)

with medals and certificates provided by the A level students of West Bridgford School.

All of the children that reached this stage of the competition deserve high praise and the judges found it extremely difficult to select the winners for most ingenious and most aesthetic as the standard was so high. Thank you so much to all that attended. It really was a delight to see so many children, staff and parents invested in this great event.
